The No Poo Experience, Cutting Hair And Ikea

Elina December, SelfCare

I’m pretty much obsessed with getting my hair into a somewhat healthy state. Last time I wrote about my hair I told you that I’m doing a no-poo challenge for a year. So no harsh chemicals on my hair for a full year. Today marks a 30-day mark for that year.

One month without shampoo. I do still wash my hair sometimes it’s with baking soda and apple cider vinegar rinse and sometimes with fenugreek paste. I wash them as frequently as I washed my hair before I stopped using shampoo. The fenugreek paste is fairly simple to make: grind the fenugreek seeds then combine them with hot water, it will make a gelatinous paste the only thing is that the seeds will get stuck in your hair if you won’t strain the mixture. You can also make a batch ahead of time. It keeps up to three weeks in the fridge.

I can’t say that I had one day this month when my hair felt clean. It had a coating on it. The porosity of my hair is also changed. My hair used to dry within the first hour of washing. And now it takes several hours before it’s dry. I believe it’s because of the ‘coating’ on my hair. Although I’m kind of not in love with how my hair feels to touch. I do feel like it’s protected.

Honestly, I’m baffled that my hair is not one big greasy mess at this point. It’s not, really. It has more volume, the hair feels thicker and it can hold the curl. This is very new to me. Up till now, my hair was pin straight no matter what I did the curls wouldn’t stay in my hair. So all of this is a giant pro for me.

It’s been a long time since I’ve cut my hair. I think the last time was 6 months ago. The ends became translucent and it kind of irritated me. No, not kind of. It irritated me a lot!  So I did some research and found the best day to cut it was today. The thing that I looked at was the lunar calendar. I’m a fairly skeptical person when it comes to ‘woo-woo’ stuff, but I really believe in the influence of the moon on us. Whether it has an influence on my hair, no idea honestly. But I think it can’t hurt to try and see what happens.

I cut my own hair. And no, I’m not an unstable fugitive on the run or going through a ‘Britney’ phase. I just like to control how much of it I cut off. I have a handy dandy device called ‘crea-clip’ that helps me cut my hair, it’s a clip with a level. So I usually cut it so it’s straight but this time I wanted something fresh and new. I did some research and found a cool method that suited what I was going for. I wanted a bit more soft layers in my hair. I have now a fresh haircut. No pictures yet because it was a fairly hectic day, but I promise to show you how it looks in one of my next posts.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…

When my hair was done we went to Ikea with my husband. We needed a couple of things and I bought a peach candle that’s burning on the dresser as I write this. I love candles, they are the ultimate ‘hygge’ instrument. And Ikea in December is well… like Ikea in any other time of the year, pure bliss…

Today’s illustration prompt was ‘snowflake’ and I drew a bunch of them and animated them. I love the gif option in Procreate. It’s such a magical tool. If you haven’t tried it yet, you have to!

There is an amazing tutorial on YouTube that you can follow that explains everything you need to know about making a gif in Procreate.

The cozy challenge calls for a winter activity with my son I’ll get to that as soon as I’ll post this blog post.

I hope you are having a nice and warm holiday season!
