No blogpost yesterday so I’ll try to sum up our weekend in one blogpost. I’m writing this blog post while sitting in my favorite spot by the Christmas tree. It’s 5 pm right now so it’s getting dark outside and the fairy lights on our tree are casting a warm glow in the room. The most wonderful thing about this job is that I can do it from anywhere. I only need my Ipad, laptop, and stylus to do what I do every day.
My husband and son are in the other room playing with Transformers.
I’m glad that I took up this ‘finish the year strong’- challenge. I wanted to build a habit of blogging and drawing digitally every day. I picked simple things to illustrate in December just to make it not too daunting. And in the beginning, it was very daunting. Even while drawing I felt nervous and jittery, I kept thinking about what if nobody likes this. But really what I do is mostly for me and I share it with you just for the sake of sharing… and inspiring. I just want to show you that anyone can do what I do… And that you can do anything you want if only you take it seriously and build that something into your daily life.
Back to our weekend, it’s the opening Christmas Fair weekend in Antwerp. We decided to visit my family that lives in the center of Antwerp. The city was buzzing with people everyone wanted to visit the Christmas Fair and do some Christmas shopping. All the streets were decorated in deferent styles and once it got dark the fairy lights made the streets look magical.
We visited with the family and then went out to do some shopping of our own and cozied up in a cafe that looked out on to a busy shopping street. I don’t know about you but I love to watch people and imagine how they spend their days. It’s maybe a weird thing to do, but I can’t help it.
So this was our Saturday. I only finished my drawing, the prompt was tea kettle. I really love how it turned out. I’m kind of happy that all of my illustrations are kind of in the same style.
Today was a lazy Sunday I actually planned to do laundry but I ran out of laundry detergent. So I decided to put it off till Monday. Usually, we prioritize family activities on Sunday. Today we had a long lazy breakfast, then we watched a movie together and went for a long walk with Maya (our Samoyed). I finished a drawing and started on my blogpost. It was an uneventful really lazy day. These are the days that recharge me. Usually, these are also the days when we really talk with my husband. Good heartfelt conversations about the things that challenge us or the lack of progress in some areas of our life. These are the things that make our relationship strong and keep it fresh. These are the conversations where ideas are born or sometimes just talking about something makes the lack of progress in an area bearable. Anywho, this was our Sunday.
The cozy prompt for today is ‘taking a bath by candlelight’ and I planned that later today. Yesterday’s prompt was doing a DIY together. You know those clever seasonal videos on YouTube… But because we were out and about this was not possible. Instead, we saw the Christmas lit Antwerp. I think I will reschedule the DIY stuff for the next Sunday.
I hope you are enjoying the dark December days!
Warm greetings from Antwerp,
